Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) is an ambitious LA loan officer with a charming boyfriend, professor Clay Dalton (Justin Long). Life is good until the mysterious Mrs Ganush (Lorna Raver) arrives at the bank to beg for an extension on her home loan. Should Christine follow her instincts and give the old woman a break? Or should she deny the extension to impress her boss, Mr Jacks (David Paymer), and get a leg-up on a promotion? Christine fatefully chooses the latter, shaming Mrs Ganush and dispossessing her of her home.In retaliation, the old woman places the powerful curse of the Lamia on Christine, transforming her life into a living hell. Haunted by an evil spirit and misunderstood by a sceptical boyfriend, she seeks the aid of seer Rham Jas (Dileep Rao) to save her soul from eternal damnation. To help the shattered Christine return her life to normal, the psychic sets her on a frantic course to reverse the spell. As evil forces close in, Christine must face the unthinkable: how far will she go to break free of the curse?

Yes - 5 stars! This was one of 2009's most fun, entertaining flicks. In a year of bloated. disappointing blockbusters, this little movie delivers EXACTLY what it promises. It's well made, well acted with enough scares, laughs and knowing nudges at '80s horror to satisy any fan of the genre (which includes you, or you wouldn't be reading this). Get it.

Sam Raimi does great horror-comedy (that lace hanky was fab) ~
and even with a fair degree of predictability, it was still a great experience.

Enjoyable schlocky romp !

What could have been a masterpiece of Horror (The first 30 minutes) then falls in a very predictable flick where comedy (The exorcism scene) close to Evil Dead 2 blends with Comics mood (Graveyard scene). I'd really like to see Raimi and Tarantino collaborating on a flick, that would be awesome really. Drag Me To Hell is like reading those old cool Horror comix, it reminds me of the Creepshow series and Evil Dead (Obviously). It all looks like a million $ of course and Raimi knows how to make a film, that's for sure. Having said that it's not a flick that will scare you, the VFX are kind of funny (aka Evil Dead 2) and the story is too square as the characters are very cardboardy unfortunately. Some the actors are heaps bad (The clairvoyant), the dialogues are Uhm! Still wondering ..perhaps that's what Raimi wanted. The script has been partly written by him so.. Anyway still I enjoyed and will remember it for what it is, the return of Sam Raimi to the Horror genre.
